Muktaram Babu Street is where we are, at number 4. If you know this part of Kolkata, you know it has a lot of history and old buildings that have been around forever. Our jewelry shop is part of that landscape. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, but people find us eventually. The entrance is a bit small, and you might miss it if you aren’t looking closely. Inside, it smells a bit like old paper and metal polish. We have these big old ledgers where we write everything down by hand. Computers are okay, but we still like the feel of a pen on paper. We spend our days looking at gold ornaments and talking to the craftsmen who bring in their work. It’s a lot of back and forth, checking the details and making sure everything is right. The street outside can be quite loud with the shouting of vendors, but inside we try to keep things calm. We usually have a bit of tea in the afternoon, and sometimes we share it with whoever happens to be in the shop. We aren't trying to be the flashiest place in town. We just want to do our jobs and go home to our families at the end of the day. It’s a simple business, and we like the people we meet along the way. It is what it is, just a small shop in an old building where we sell jewelry.
