Our place is at 22 Strand Road, right on the first floor. It’s an old part of the city, and you can practically smell the river and the history of trade in the air. The building is one of those classic structures with thick walls, though the paint is peeling in some spots. At Sun Steel Industries, we spend most of our time coordinating with the warehouses and making sure the steel gets delivered. The traffic on Strand Road is legendary, and not in a good way. We spend a lot of our day looking out at the trucks and hoping our shipments don't get stuck for too long. Inside, the office is pretty simple. We have a few desks, some old filing cabinets that have seen better days, and a lot of ledger books. It’s a very practical environment. We don’t really do the whole corporate branding thing. We just know steel and we know the local market. Usually, we’re dealing with regular customers who have been buying from us for years. There’s a certain comfort in the routine—opening up early, checking the morning papers, and then getting into the thick of the orders. It’s a lot of manual work and phone calls, but it keeps the business moving along. We’re just local people trying to do our jobs well in a very busy part of town. That is really all there is to our company.
