Our office is over at 1/B Baishnab Ghata in Kolkata. It’s a busy part of the city, and we’ve been here with Steel Authority Of India Ltd for quite some time now. Kolkata has a way of being both chaotic and familiar, and our little spot in Baishnab Ghata is no different. We handle the paperwork and the coordination for the steel operations from this building. It’s an old place, with high ceilings and fans that never seem to stop spinning. We aren't into the corporate polish you see in the newer parts of town. We just have our desks piled with papers and a small team that knows the business inside out. Most days are spent on the phone or going through files to make sure everything is legal and on schedule. The traffic outside can be pretty loud, but you stop noticing it after a while. We don't have a mission statement on the wall. We just know that the steel needs to get moved and the accounts need to be settled. It’s practical work for practical people. We take our lunch breaks together and talk about local news. It’s a small, honest operation within a much larger company. We just do our bit and keep things moving as best as we can. It’s just another day at the office for us.
