This office for Steel Authority Of India Ltd is tucked away in the Navaratna Apartment on S. N. Roy Road. We are up in Flat 303, which is 368C. Kolkata is a big, busy city, and this part of town has its own specific feel. It’s more of a residential-style setup than a skyscraper office. We spend our hours here dealing with the administrative side of things. There are usually three or four of us in the flat at any given time. We have our desks set up in what used to be the living room and bedrooms. It makes for a bit of a strange layout, but it works for what we need to do. The S. N. Roy Road traffic can be a nightmare in the afternoons, so we usually try to get in early. We handle a lot of internal records and coordination from this spot. It’s not the main headquarters, but it’s an important link for the work happening in West Bengal. We don’t have any big flashy logos on the door, just a small nameplate so people know they’re at the right flat. Sometimes we order tea from the shop downstairs and just keep grinding through the paperwork. It’s a lot of filing and checking numbers, which isn't very exciting but someone has to do it. The apartment is quiet enough most days, which helps us stay focused on the tasks at hand. It’s just how we get through the week.
