Silence

Our place, Silence, is tucked away at 2/1A, Monohar Pukur 2nd Lane. It’s a narrow little lane in Kolkata, and it’s not always as quiet as the name suggests. There’s usually some activity going on with the neighbors or people walking by. The building is one of those typical Kolkata structures with character and maybe a bit of dampness on the walls during the monsoon. We have a small door that leads into our workspace. It’s a bit cramped inside because we have so many things stored away. We try to keep things in order, but it’s a struggle when you’re busy every day. We spend a lot of time just sitting and working on the small details. Sometimes the ceiling fan makes a clicking sound that we’ve just learned to ignore. We don’t have any big signs out front or anything like that. People who need to find us usually know the way. It’s a very local feel here. We know the person who sells snacks at the end of the lane and the postman knows us by name. It’s just a small group of us doing our thing in this corner of the city. We don’t really worry about making the place look like a corporate office. It’s more like a home that turned into a workspace over the years. We just keep going, day after day, in our own little way.
