Sbr Brick

Sbr Brick is over in Bolpur, in the Birbhum district. It’s a beautiful part of the country, but our work is mostly about the earth and the fire. We’ve got a spot where we dig the clay and set up the stacks for drying. Bolpur is known for many things, but for us, it's just home and where we do our business every day. The process of making bricks here is pretty much what you’d expect. We mix the soil, mold it into shapes, and let it sit under the sun. It’s not a fast process at all. You can’t rush the drying phase. Sometimes we have issues with the supply of fuel for the kiln, or the labor is short during the festival times when everyone goes home. We just manage as best as we can. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that. People just know where we are in Birbhum. They see the smoke from the chimney and they know we are working. We deal with locals mostly. It's a lot of handshakes and talking over the fence. The bricks aren't always perfect in color, but they are solid and that’s what matters for building a wall. We keep the yard as organized as possible, though with all the mud and trucks, it gets messy fast. It’s just regular work for regular people here in Bolpur. We just keep at it day after day without much change.
