Satya Art

You have to head over to Abinash Sashmal Lane to find us. Satya Art is up on the first floor, not far from Phool Bagan. It is a bit of a climb if you are carrying heavy things, but the light is decent up here. We have got canvases and frames leaned up against almost every wall. The floor usually has some paint spills that we never quite managed to scrub off. It is a workspace more than a gallery. We spend our hours cutting wood for frames or stretching fabric. There is always a smell of turpentine or wood glue in the air, which you get used to after a while. People come in looking for something specific, and we do our best to put it together with what we have in the back. It isn't a very tidy place. We have stacks of paper and jars of brushes everywhere. Sometimes we get distracted talking about a new project and forget to clear the table for lunch. The neighborhood is fairly busy, so there is always background noise from the street below. We don't have a receptionist; usually, whoever isn't holding a brush or a hammer is the one who answers the door. It is just us making things day by day. We don't have big sales pitches or any of that stuff. If you like the work, you like it. We just enjoy the process of creating something from scratch in our little corner of the city.
