Sarkar Steel & Co.

You can find Sarkar Steel & Co. in Sonarpur town, right in the Natunpally area. We are directly opposite the P.N.B Bank, which makes it easy for people to give directions. Golden Plaza is also just around the corner, so there is always a lot of foot traffic and bikes zooming past the front door. Our shop is usually full of steel rods and different sections of metal leaning against the walls. It is a busy part of town, so there is never really a quiet moment. We hear the bank customers complaining about parking all day. Inside, we are usually busy measuring things or writing out receipts on a small wooden table. The fan overhead squeaks a bit, but we’ve gotten used to it. We don't spend money on marketing or anything like that. People just know we are here. My nephew helps me with the heavy lifting because some of these steel pieces are quite long. We have to be careful when moving them so we don't hit the ceiling or the light bulbs. The tea stall next door brings us rounds a few times a day. When the monsoon hits, the water splashes up from the road into the entryway, so we keep a mop handy. It is just a local business in a busy spot. We open the shutters in the morning and close them late, and that is our routine. It is a lot of work but we keep at it.
