We are located on the second floor of House Number 48/49 A here in Kolkata. Being part of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. in a city like this is always interesting. The office is right in the middle of the bustle of West Bengal’s capital. It’s a bit of a climb up to the second floor, but it’s a decent space once you get there. We’ve got windows that look out over the street, which can be distracting with all the noise and traffic below. Our work involves a lot of coordination between the different plants and the regional buyers. It’s a lot of phone calls, emails, and occasionally meeting people face-to-face. We aren't fancy people. Most of us have worked in the steel industry for a long time and we just want to get things done without any drama. The office is a bit cluttered with samples and old ledgers, but we know where everything is. Kolkata has its own way of doing things, and we fit right into that rhythm. We don't have a marketing department writing nice things about us. We just rely on the fact that the work gets finished. It can be a bit chaotic during the monsoon season when the streets flood, but we still make it in. It’s a simple, hardworking atmosphere where we just get on with it. That’s really all there is to it.
