We are located at Plot No. 75 on Kailash Bose Street, over in the Simla area near Machuabazar. Being a steel business, it is never quiet at our place. There is always the sound of metal hitting metal or the screech of something being cut or moved. The floor is concrete and usually covered in bits of scrap and metal shavings. We have big heavy doors that we slide open in the morning, and the smell of grease and iron hits you immediately. It is a tough environment, especially when it is humid in Kolkata, and we all end up pretty sweaty by noon. We don't have a lot of fancy office furniture; mostly just some sturdy stools and a heavy wooden table where we look at the orders. The walls are a bit stained from years of work, and we have tools hanging up wherever there is a free nail. Machuabazar is a busy area, so there is always a lot of movement outside our gates. We have a couple of guys who have been with us for twenty years, and they know exactly how to handle the heavy sheets without even thinking about it. We just focus on the metal and getting it ready for whatever it’s being used for next. It’s honest, loud, and very physical work every day. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish a big batch of orders, but that’s just the nature of the industry and the street.
