Pukhraj Harsh &Sons Jewellers Llp is over at 18 Hanspukur, 1st Lane. We are up on the 1st floor of an old building in Kolkata 700007. This area is very crowded, and the streets are very narrow. Sometimes it’s hard for a car to even get through the lane. We’ve been here for many years, following in the footsteps of the older generation. The shop is filled with the smell of old wood and the sound of small hammers hitting metal. We handle a lot of traditional ornaments, the kind people wear for big family functions. It is a family business, so you will usually see two or three of us sitting together. We don't use much fancy technology here. We prefer doing things by hand when we can. The light in the lane isn't always great, but we have big lamps over our workbenches to see the fine details. People come to us because they knew our father or grandfather. We sit and drink tea with the customers while they decide what they want. It’s not a fast process, but that is how we like it. We have a lot of old stories about this building and the people who lived in this lane before us. It is just our way of living and working in this part of the city. We hope to stay here for many more years to come.
