New Art Saloon

New Art Saloon is situated right along Jessore Road in the Sangachhiya part of Kolkata. If you have ever traveled down Jessore Road, you know how dusty and crowded it can get with all the trucks and buses. Our shop is a bit of a break from all that chaos outside. We have a small space where we do mostly hair cutting and shaving for the local men. It’s not a fancy place despite the name, it’s just a regular saloon where we work hard every day. The walls are painted a simple blue and we have a few shelves for our razors and creams. We spend a lot of time sweeping because the dust from the road always finds its way inside no matter what we do. Most of our customers are drivers or people who work in the shops nearby. They come in looking a bit tired and leave feeling a little more refreshed. We have a couple of rotating chairs that squeak a little when you turn them. There is usually a bit of a wait on Saturday nights because everyone wants to look good for Sunday. We don't have a website or anything like that, people just know we are here. It’s a simple business. We focus on the task at hand and try to make sure everyone gets what they came for. The traffic outside never stops, and neither do we.
