National Variety Stores is located at 1, National Variety Stores in the Rania area of Kolkata - 700002. It’s a humble place, honestly. We don’t have a lot of space so everything is packed together. You might find some stationery next to the tea leaves. I try to keep everything tidy but with so many small items, it’s a constant struggle. I’ve been in Rania for years and the shop is how I know everyone. When the power goes out, which happens sometimes, I light a few candles and we keep going. Customers come in and we talk about the local news while I pack their bags. I use old newspapers for wrapping sometimes. The counter is a bit scratched up from years of coins and bags being slid across it. I don't have a big staff, it's mostly just me and occasionally my nephew. We sell things people need every day like matches, soap, and snacks. It’s a simple way to make a living in Kolkata. The front door sticks a bit during the monsoon season. I don't have any big plans to expand, I'm content with how things are right here. It’s just a regular store for regular people who live around Rania and need their daily supplies without any fuss.
