National Material Centre

National Material Centre is located at P-3 on Chandni Chowk Street, right near Princep Street. This area is the heart of the hardware and machinery trade, so it is always packed with people looking for parts. Our shop is at P-3 and it is basically a front room full of heavy metal items and a back area where we keep the bulkier stock. The floor is stained with oil and there is a lot of iron dust on the counters. We spend our time helping people find exactly the right size of whatever they are looking for, which usually involves a lot of measuring and double-checking. It is a very hands-on job and your clothes usually end up looking a bit rough by the end of the shift. Princep Street is a noisy place, with horns honking and people pushing carts, so we have to talk pretty loud to be heard over the din. We have an old ceiling fan that wobbles a bit, but it helps when the humidity gets bad. We don't have any fancy marketing or anything like that; we just open the doors and wait for the regulars to come in. Most of our business comes from people who have been buying their materials from us for a long time. It is a simple, practical business where we just focus on having what people need and getting it to them without making things complicated.
