Nampa Steel

Working at Nampa Steel at 273, Rabindra Sarani Road in Kolkata is a loud and heavy kind of job. If you have been to this part of the city, you know how the old buildings and the narrow streets feel. There is always a smell of metal and grease in the air around our place. We spend most of the day moving steel around and talking to contractors who need specific things for their building projects. It gets very hot in the summer, especially with all that metal reflecting the sun, but we just keep the big doors open and get on with it. The trucks come and go, and there is a lot of shouting to be heard over the noise of the traffic outside. We have been in West Bengal for a long time, and we know how the rain can slow everything down during the monsoon, so we try to get as much done as we can before the clouds break. Our office is just a corner of the warehouse with a couple of chairs and a ceiling fan that has seen better days. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because it would just get covered in metal dust anyway. It is hard work, and our hands are usually dirty by the time we go home, but it is what we know how to do.
