Serpentine Lane is a bit narrow, but that is where you will find us at number 69 A. We have been doing metal work here in Kolkata for a long time. It’s an old part of the city, and our workshop feels like it belongs here. There is always the sound of hammers or machines running in the background. We work with various metals, doing the kind of jobs that require a steady hand and some experience. It’s not a clean job; our hands are usually covered in dust or grease by noon. We don’t have a big sales department or anything. If someone needs something made or fixed, they just come to the lane and talk to us directly. We use some old machines that still work better than the new ones sometimes. The light in the workshop isn't the brightest, but we know every corner of this place. We have seen the city change around us, but the metal work stays pretty much the same. We take our lunch breaks together and talk about the day's work. It is a simple setup, no air conditioning or fancy chairs. Just the benches and the tools we use every day. If you find yourself on Serpentine Lane, just look for the stack of metal sheets outside the door. That’s probably us. We just keep our heads down and do the work that comes our way. It is a quiet life of making things out of metal and making sure the customers are satisfied with what we hand over to them.
