We operate Mithila Food Grains Industries Private Limited out of Room No 2 at 67A Metcalfe Street. If you know Kolkata, you know this part of town is always packed. Our office is tucked away in an old building. It’s small and usually filled with samples of different grains. We deal with rice, wheat, and other staples that people eat every day. It’s a lot of sitting at the desk, making calls to suppliers and checking the quality of the latest batches. The walls are a bit dusty and the wooden furniture has seen better days, but it works for us. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a sleek office. We just care about getting the grain from the producers to the people who need it. Metcalfe Street is noisy with traffic, but once you’re inside Room 2, it’s mostly just the sound of the ceiling fan and someone typing. We’ve been here for a while now. My assistant handles most of the ledger work while I talk to the mill owners. Sometimes the samples get mixed up and we have to spend the afternoon sorting them out again. It’s boring work to some, but it’s what we know. We aren't doing anything revolutionary, just moving food grains like businesses have done for years. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till evening. There is always a stack of paperwork to finish and a new shipment to track down.
