Metal & Steel Factory, Ishapore

Living and working around Noapara means you get used to the sound of steel. Our place on Nabin Chandra Das Road is right in the thick of things. It’s an old area and the building has seen better days, but it’s sturdy enough for the kind of work we do. We deal with a lot of metal and steel day in and day out. Some of the machines are loud and the floor is always covered in some kind of dust or shavings. It’s a factory, after all. The humidity in Bengal can make the work pretty tough in the summer months, but we just get on with it. We have a crew that’s been with us for a long time. Everyone knows their job. We don’t spend much time on fancy office work. Most of the day is spent on the floor making sure the steel is handled right. The gate at 42/17 is always busy with trucks coming in and out. It’s tight on the road sometimes, especially when the rain starts and everything gets muddy. People in Ishapore know us as the place that just keeps going. We don't make a big fuss about what we do. It’s just heavy work that needs doing. We eat our lunch together and talk about the news or the local cricket scores. It is a decent life working with your hands and making things that last.
