Jairaj Farm

We are out at No. 17/1 Kanakpura Road. Being on the farm is a lot of work that never really stops. The address sounds simple but there is a lot of ground to cover once you get past the gate. We have various crops and sometimes animals to look after depending on the time of year. Every morning starts before the sun is even up properly. We don't have an office with air conditioning. Our workspace is mostly the outdoors and a couple of sheds where we keep the tools and the seeds. The mud gets everywhere when it rains, so we all wear boots. It’s a very practical way to live. We don't spend much time on the computer unless we really have to. Most of our talking is done face to face while we are working in the fields. Kanakpura Road has gotten much busier over the years, but once you step onto the farm, it feels a bit more peaceful. We grow what we can and we try to look after the soil. It’s not about being a big corporation. It’s about the plants and the harvest. We eat what we grow often. The fences always need fixing and there is always something that needs water. It’s a tiring job but it feels good to see things growing from nothing. We just keep at it day after day. It’s just us and the land here.
