My name is Joydeb Chatterjee. I work out of 1 Auckland Place here in Kolkata. It’s an old building, you know the type with those high ceilings and thick walls that stay cool even when the sun is really hitting the pavement outside. I’ve been at this spot for a long time now. People usually find me by looking for the gate near the corner. It's not a fancy place. Most days it’s just me and a couple of others handling whatever paperwork comes our way. We have a lot of old files piled up. Sometimes the fan makes a bit of noise, but we’re used to it. The tea guy comes by around eleven and then again at four. That's pretty much the rhythm of the day here. Auckland Place is a busy enough street, but inside it stays mostly quiet. I like the light that comes through the window in the afternoon. It hits the desk just right. Sometimes the traffic outside gets a bit loud if there's a protest or something nearby, but that’s just how Kolkata is. We don’t have a big sign outside, just a small one so people know they’re at the right door. It works for us. It’s a simple setup, nothing much to talk about really. We just show up, do the work, and go home when the sun goes down. It’s been that way for years now.
