About Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. – Metals & Minerals in Kolkata
Working out of Duckback House on Shakespeare Sarani has its ups and downs. The building itself has a lot of history, though sometimes the plumbing reminds you exactly how old it is. We are in 3A, and it’s a busy spot for Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. People think of steel as this big, cold thing, but our day-to-day is actually quite a bit of paperwork and coordinating with the plants. The phones never really stop ringing, and there is always a stack of documents waiting for a signature or a stamp. It gets quite humid here in Kolkata, and the air conditioning in the office struggles a bit during the peak of summer. We usually bring lunch from home and eat at our desks while scrolling through the news or just chatting about nothing in particular. The walk from the main road to the entrance is short, but you have to dodge a lot of traffic. Shakespeare Sarani is always packed with cars and people heading to different offices. Sometimes we look out the window and just watch the rain come down, which happens a lot. Our office isn't overly decorated. We have the usual calendars on the wall and a few plants that someone remembers to water once a week. It is just a regular place where we come to do our jobs and then head home to our families. The rhythm is predictable, which is actually quite nice.
