Working over here at Jindal Stainless Ltd. Hisar in Salt Lake, Kolkata feels like being right in the middle of everything. If you know Salt Lake, you know how the sectors are laid out. It’s a lot of walking sometimes. We spend most of our days dealing with the humidity which gets pretty thick in the afternoons. The office doesn't have any of those fancy waterfalls or glass art you see in the big corporate videos. It is just a place where we get things done. Most of us take the bus or a rickshaw to get to work. The tea stall around the corner is where most of the actual talk happens during the breaks. You see the same faces every morning. It's a bit dusty outside because of the construction that never seems to end in this part of Kolkata. We’ve been at this address for a while now. Some days are slow and other days the phones won't stop ringing. There is no big secret to how we operate. We just show up and do the work that needs doing. Sometimes the power flickers but we just keep going. It’s not a glamorous life but it’s ours. Salt Lake has a specific rhythm to it and we are just a small part of that daily grind. You might miss the entrance if you aren't looking closely because the signage is a bit old now. That is just how it is here in Kolkata. We just keep moving.
