We are located on the 5th floor of Stephen House, which is at number 4 B.B.D. Bagh. It’s one of those old buildings in the heart of the city where the hallways feel a bit narrow and the elevators are always working hard. Working at Hooghly Alloy & Steels means being right in the middle of the Kolkata rush. Outside the windows, you can hear the trams and the honking of the yellow taxis all day long. Our office is a bit crowded with filing cabinets and old ledgers, but we know where everything is. It’s a busy atmosphere because we are constantly coordinating between the plants and the clients who need alloy and steel products. We don't have fancy glass partitions or modern art on the walls. It’s more about stacks of invoices and the sound of people talking on the phones. Sometimes the tea man comes by, and that’s the highlight of the afternoon. We’ve been in this spot for quite a while, and the wooden floors have some character from all the feet that have walked over them. It’s a long way up from the street, but it gives us a good view of the neighborhood. We aren't a corporate giant with a thousand rules; we’re just a group of people making sure the steel gets where it needs to go. It’s a lot of coordination and sometimes a bit of stress, but we get it done.
