Gangotri Iron & Steel Co. Ltd is based over at 42 A, Beadon Row, which is a very old part of North Kolkata. If you know the city, you know that Beadon Row has a lot of history and the streets are quite narrow and full of life. Our office is in one of those classic buildings that has been around for decades. It has high ceilings and those old-style windows that let in the sounds of the street vendors and the yellow taxis honking outside. We’ve been here for quite some time, and the place feels very lived-in. There’s no corporate lobby or fancy reception desk here. You just walk in and see us working at our desks, surrounded by stacks of papers and old files. The iron and steel trade is a big part of the history in this region, and we are just a small piece of that long tradition. We spend our days coordinating with various people and making sure our records are up to date. It can get pretty humid in Kolkata, so the ceiling fans are almost always spinning at full speed. We like being in this part of the city because everything you need is just around the corner, from a quick cup of chai to a full meal. It’s a busy, noisy, and very real place to work. We don’t try to act like we’re a huge conglomerate. We’re just a local company doing our bit on Beadon Row.
