We are located over at 2, Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani, right in Flat 3C. It’s an interesting spot because you’re in the middle of Kolkata’s bustle but working out of what used to be a residential flat. The rooms are full of filing cabinets and samples of different steel alloys. It gets pretty cramped when we have a lot of paperwork coming in. Most of the day is spent on the phone, talking to suppliers or checking on shipments. We deal in alloy steels, which means we have to be pretty careful with the specs and the grades. It’s a lot of checking numbers over and over again. The fans are always spinning, trying to move the humid air around, and the sound of the traffic from the street below never really stops. We’ve been in this office for quite a while, and the walls are covered in old calendars and charts. It’s not a big corporate headquarters with glass walls. It’s just us sitting at old wooden desks, trying to make sure the orders get where they need to go. Sometimes the lift in the building doesn’t work, so we end up walking the stairs, which is a good way to wake up in the morning. We know our regulars well, and they know where to find us. It’s a straightforward business, dealing with steel and logistics in a city that’s always moving. We just keep at it, one shipment at a time.
