We’ve been here at 2 N.C Dutta Sarani for a while now. Getting up to the third floor keeps us fit, though the lift works most days. D.R. Steel Construction Company Pvt. Ltd. isn't a fancy place with glass walls and carpets. It’s an office where things happen. You look out the window and see the city moving, and down here on the third floor, we just keep at it. People come in and out, drawings get spread across the old desks, and the phone rings more than you’d expect. Sometimes the tea man is late, but that’s just how it goes on this street. We deal with steel and building stuff every single day. It’s not glamorous work, but it’s what we know. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy looking at site plans to worry about that. Being in this part of town means there is always noise from the street below, but you get used to it after the first month. We have some heavy files stacked in the corners because there’s never enough shelf space. If you walk past the main desk, you’ll probably see a couple of us arguing over a measurement or a delivery time. It is just the way we operate. No big speeches, just getting the steel where it needs to go and making sure the construction side of things stays on track without too much trouble.
