Delhi Iron & Steel Co. is tucked away at 48/D on Mukta Ram Babu Street. This is an old part of the city, and the streets are narrow and full of history. We’ve been handling iron and steel here for a very long time. The building is old, and you can feel the weight of all that metal we’ve moved over the decades. We mostly deal with structural stuff, like rods and bars. Loading and unloading is a real challenge on such a tight street, so we have to be quick and organized about it. The shop itself is dark and cool, even when it’s hot outside, because of the thick walls. We don't have computers everywhere; we still use a lot of paper and ink for our records. Our hands are almost always stained with rust or grease, but that’s just part of the trade. We know most of the other shopkeepers on the street, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit, though our work remains largely the same. We don't put much stock in fancy titles or corporate structures. We just know our steel and we know how to get it to the people who need it for their construction projects.
