I’m Deepa Jaiswal and I work at 483/2, Shyamnagar Road. My office is in a part of Kolkata that feels very much like a community, the 700004 area. It’s a ground floor space, which is convenient because nobody has to climb stairs. The room is a bit small, but it fits everything I need. I have my desk, a couple of chairs for guests, and a shelf for my books and documents. The window looks out onto a small side path. It’s not a very busy road, so I don't get too much noise from cars, mostly just people walking by or the occasional vegetable seller with his cart. I like the morning light here. I usually get in early to beat the heat. The walls are a light blue, which I find calming when things get busy. I don't have a big team, it's mostly just me and a part-time helper who comes in the afternoons. We handle everything ourselves. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook, and other times it’s completely silent for hours. I keep a small stove in the corner to make tea because I like it made a certain way. It’s a modest place, nothing like the corporate offices in the south of the city. It’s just where I do my thing. People find me through word of mouth mostly. It’s been my spot for a few years now and it works.
