About Debdip Fabrication Services – Metals & Minerals in Kolkata
The workshop is located at No. 11/B/1 Jamir Lane, which is very close to the Ballugunge Station. You can usually hear the sound of the grinders and the welding machines before you even see the door. I spend my day wearing heavy gloves and a mask because the sparks fly everywhere when we are cutting metal. We make gates, window grills, and sometimes iron frames for people’s houses. The floor is always covered in metal scraps and iron dust, so I have to be careful where I step. I start work early in the morning before it gets too hot. Most of the time, I am measuring pipes or bending rods to the right shape. It is hard on the hands, but I am used to it by now. The alleyway outside is narrow, so we have to be careful when moving long pieces of steel in and out. People from the neighborhood bring in broken chairs or gates that need a bit of fixing. I don’t use any fancy computers to design things; I just draw them out on a piece of paper or right on the floor with chalk. My tea gets cold quickly because I get busy with the torch. It’s a loud place, and the smell of burnt metal stays in my clothes. Near the station, there is always someone passing by looking for a quick repair job.
