Debasish Bhattacharya works out of Kaberi Appt in the Ghoshpara area. It’s a residential building, so it has that quiet, lived-in feel you get in that part of Kolkata. The address is easy to find once you are in Ghoshpara. The office is basically one of the rooms in the apartment that has been converted into a workspace. It’s got a big window that looks out onto the street, though the view is mostly just the building across the way and some trees. Debasish has his own way of doing things, usually starting early before the city gets too hot. There is a lot of history in the files kept in the cabinets here. Many of the people who come to see us have been doing so for years. They know the way up to Kaberi Appt and don't mind the simple surroundings. We don't have a big staff, so things are handled personally. It is a lot of typing, checking figures, and making sure everything is filed correctly with the right departments. The atmosphere is very informal. You might hear a television from a neighbor's flat or someone cooking lunch nearby. It’s a very human way to work. We aren't trying to be a huge firm. We just want to do a good job for the people who rely on us. It is a modest setup, but it serves us well for the work we do every day without fail.
