Chakraborty Metal Works

Chakraborty Metal Works is based at 118/B, Narikel Danga North Road. It’s a straightforward shop where we work with metal every day. It’s usually quite hot inside because of the welding and the heat from the machines. We don’t have any air conditioning, just a few fans that don't do much. The walls are covered in soot and there are metal shavings all over the floor. We spend most of our time bending, cutting, and joining pieces together. It’s a lot of physical labor and by the end of the day, we are pretty tired. Narikel Danga is a busy neighborhood, and we are right in the thick of it. We’ve been here for a long time, and everyone around here knows who we are. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just drop by when they have something that needs fixing or making. We have a small crew and we’ve all worked together for years. We know how each other works without having to say much. It’s a noisy place to be, but we don’t mind it. Sometimes the rain gets a bit heavy and we have to move things away from the door. But mostly, we just keep our heads down and get through the pile of work we have. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s a good way to earn a living.
