Bhushan Power Steel Ltd

The plant for Bhushan Power Steel Ltd is a big landmark here on NH-2 Dilli Road. We are specifically located in the Mallickpara area of Bangihatti in Hooghly district. If you’re driving down the highway, you can’t miss the scale of the operation. I spend most of my time at the site, making sure things are moving through the gates and that the shifts are changing on time. It is a massive place with a lot of noise and heat coming from the furnaces. West Bengal can get very humid, so working around all that steel makes for a sweaty day. We have a lot of local workers from the surrounding villages who come in for their shifts. It’s a major part of the local economy here. My office is just a small cabin near one of the main sheds. It’s filled with logs and safety equipment. We don't have any polished speeches or glossy brochures. We just focus on the tonnage and making sure the trucks get loaded properly. Sometimes there are delays on the highway which makes things a bit chaotic, but we manage. The canteen is the best place to catch up on the gossip and see how everyone is doing. It’s hard work, no doubt about it, but there is a sense of pride in seeing the finished product leave the gates. We just take it one day at a time and keep the furnace burning.
