Bhopal Singh

Our spot is over at Plot No. Ind-5 in Sector-1. This part of East Calcutta Township is mostly industrial and small businesses. Bhopal Singh isn't a huge operation, just a dedicated group of us working out of this plot. The area can get a bit muddy when the monsoons hit because the drainage isn't always the best around here. We have a small yard and a main building where we do most of our tasks. It’s not a place you’d find in a magazine. It’s got some wear and tear, but it works for us. We see the same people walking to the nearby bus stop every morning and evening. There’s a small shop around the corner that sells snacks and cigarettes where we usually end up at least once a day. The township has grown a lot since we first set up here. There used to be more empty plots, but now almost every space is taken. We keep our gate open during the day so people can just walk in and talk. Inside, it’s a bit of a maze with supplies and equipment stored in different corners. We don't really have a reception desk; you just talk to whoever is closest to the door. It’s a practical setup. We spend our time managing whatever comes our way. It's just a regular day-to-day life for us in this corner of Calcutta. We have a few fans to keep the air moving, but it’s still warm.
