Bengal Expanded Metal

Our workshop, Bengal Expanded Metal, is tucked away at No. 7/2 on Mahesh Mukherjee, Feeder Road in Ariadaha. It’s a corner of the city where things feel a bit more old-school. We spend our days working with metal sheets, cutting and stretching them into different patterns. It’s noisy work, and the smell of oil and metal is everywhere, but we like it that way. We started out small and stayed that way because it's easier to keep an eye on everything. The floor is usually covered in scrap bits of iron, which we have to sweep up every few hours so nobody trips. We don’t have a fancy showroom. If someone wants to see what we do, they just walk right into the shop where the machines are. Sometimes the neighbors complain about the clanging sounds, but most people around here are used to the small industries. My father worked in metal too, so it’s just what I know. We don’t have a marketing department or a sales team. If the phone rings, it’s usually one of us picking it up with greasy hands. We make sure the orders are ready when we say they will be, even if it means staying late under the dim lights. The road outside can get pretty cramped with rickshaws and delivery vans. It makes getting the heavy stuff out a bit of a challenge, but we manage. We just keep working until the job is done for the day.
