Bansal Stores

Bansal Stores is located at 3 5 / 2 on B T Road in Cossipore. It is a busy part of Kolkata and there is always a lot of noise from the trucks passing by outside. We are quite close to the Ubi Bank so we see people coming and going from there all day long. The shop itself is packed with items from the floor to the ceiling. Sometimes it is hard to find things if you do not know exactly where to look. We spend our mornings checking the bags of flour and sugar for any leaks. The walls are a bit faded and the floor has seen better days but it is our space. We have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years. People stop in for a packet of biscuits or some tea leaves for their morning drink. We do not have a big team, just a few of us making sure everything stays in order. The humidity in Kolkata can be tough on the stock so we have to be very careful. It is a lot of manual work lifting heavy sacks and stacking tins. We do not use a computer system, we just use our notebooks. It is how we have always done it. There is a certain rhythm to the day that we like. Even when it is raining hard outside people still find their way here. It is just a neighborhood shop trying to keep up.
