This part of Siliguri is always moving because it’s a major road for anyone heading north. You can see the trucks and the traffic from the windows up here. The office is officially under the care of Harsh Agarwal. We deal with diamonds, which means we have to be careful and keep things organized. The 5th floor is high enough to get a bit of a breeze sometimes. We have a regular routine every morning. We get in, check the mail, and start looking at the stones or the orders. It’s not a fancy lifestyle. We spend a lot of time on the phone or just looking at spreadsheets. The office is functional. We have chairs that have seen better days and desks covered in papers. Siliguri has its own pace, a bit different from Kolkata, and we fit right into that. When the weather is clear, you can feel the mountain air even if you can’t see the hills perfectly from this floor. We just keep to ourselves and do the work.
