Akhtar Ali

Down at 2L, Radha Govinda Saha Lane, things are always a bit tight. This is where Akhtar Ali is located. It is right near the Hajj Committee area, so it is a landmark most people in this part of Kolkata know well. The lane itself is narrow. You have to be careful walking down it when the delivery bikes are zooming past. The office isn't much more than a functional space. We have a few chairs for guests and a desk where most of the work happens. It is a bit dusty because of all the construction nearby, but we try to keep it tidy enough to work. There is no receptionist or a waiting room with magazines. If you come by, you just walk in and we talk. It is very informal. Sometimes it gets a bit loud with the neighbors or the street noise, but you get used to it after a week or two. We do not have a lot of fancy equipment. Just the basics to make sure the paperwork is correct and the people are taken care of. Working here feels very connected to the street outside. You can see everything happening from the front door. It is a busy, lived-in spot. We do not pretend to be a big corporation. We are just Akhtar Ali’s team, working out of a small lane in a big city, trying to keep things simple and clear for everyone who visits us.
