Adyama Variety Stores

Out here in Dakshineswar, on D D Mondal Ghat Road, you can find Adyama Variety Stores. We are close to the river, and the air always feels a bit different in this part of Kolkata. Our shop is filled with a bit of everything, which is why we call it a variety store. We have household items, toys, some gift things, and daily essentials. It’s a bit of a jumble sometimes, but we know where everything is hidden. The walk down to the ghat is right there, so we get a lot of pilgrims and tourists along with our regular neighbors. We spend our mornings dusting the glass cases and checking what needs to be reordered. It’s a family-run thing, so we don't have a lot of rules or a corporate handbook. We just treat people fairly and hope they come back. Sometimes the monsoon rain makes the road a bit messy, and business slows down, but we stay open regardless. We've lived in this area for generations, so we care about what happens on this street. It’s a simple life, selling small things that people need for their homes. We don't have a big sign with lights, just the name above the door. If you’re passing by on your way to the water, you’ll see us there. The shop isn't modern, but it has what you need for your house or a quick gift.
