Madura Cottons

Down at 39/9 on Palaniappa Street, you will find Madura Cottons. This street is always crowded, and the noise from the traffic never really stops, but it’s a good place for a cotton business. We have been here for a good amount of time, and the walls of our building show it. Inside, it’s mostly stacks of cotton fabric and rolls of material piled up high. We don't have much in the way of air conditioning, so we usually keep the big front doors open to let the breeze in. It gets dusty, and you can always see little bits of cotton lint floating in the air when the sun shines through the windows. The people working here at Madura Cottons are used to the heavy lifting. We spend our days moving bales and cutting fabric to size. It’s physical work, and by the end of the shift, everyone is pretty tired. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; a lot of it is still written down in ledgers and on slips of paper. Palaniappa Street is a tight squeeze for the delivery vans, so there is always a bit of shouting and horn honking when we load things up. It’s just a regular local business trying to keep things moving. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not, just a place that sells cotton and works hard at 39/9. The fans hum all day long to keep the dust moving while we sort through the different grades of cotton.
