Devi Matriculation School

Devi Matriculation School is tucked away in Thuckalay, which is down in the Kanyakumari district. The address is simple because everyone around here knows where things are anyway. It is a local school that has been part of the landscape for a long time. The weather here can be quite rainy during the monsoon season, so the school building has to stand up to a lot of dampness and wind. We have a gate that stays closed during the day to keep things orderly, and a small area where the kids gather before the first period starts. Most of our staff live nearby and have been working here for years, so they know the names of almost every parent who walks through the door. The classrooms are basic with blackboards and wooden benches that have been scratched by generations of students. We do not have any high-tech gadgets or polished marble floors; it is just concrete and paint. During the lunch hour, the smell of homemade food from the kids' tiffin boxes fills up the hallways. Thuckalay is a place where people value traditional ways of doing things, and the school reflects that. We just wake up, open the gates, teach the classes, and go home once the sun starts to set. It is honest work and we do it every day of the week except Sundays. The goal is just to make sure the kids finish their syllabus and pass their exams like they are supposed to.
