West Moozhikkara L P School

Our school is tucked away in Kodiyeri, which is part of Kannur. It’s a lower primary school, so we only have the younger children here. It’s a small place, really. We’ve got a few classrooms and a small area for the kids to run around during their breaks. Being in a place like Kodiyeri, we mostly see children from the nearby houses. The teachers here are mostly local people too, so everyone knows each other. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere compared to those big city schools. We focus on the basics like reading, writing, and some simple math. You can hear the kids reciting their lessons from the street sometimes. The building is old and has that specific smell of chalk and old paper. We don't have a lot of high-tech stuff. It’s just blackboards and desks. We spend a lot of time making sure the little ones are comfortable and not too scared when they first start school. Kannur can get quite hot, so we appreciate the trees around the building that give us some shade. Sometimes the parents stop by just to chat or bring something for the mid-day meals. It’s a community effort to keep things running. We don’t have a website or big brochures. We just open the gates every morning and do our best for the kids who show up. It’s a simple life at West Moozhikkara, just teaching the basics.
