Olavilam North L.P School

The school is located in Mekunnu, along that road that goes from Mathiparambu to Chokli. It is a quiet spot in Kannur, mostly. Being a lower primary school, we deal with the smaller kids, so there is always a lot of shouting and playing going on during the breaks. The building is simple, nothing fancy at all. We have the usual classrooms and a small area for the kids to run around when it isn't raining too hard. In Kannur, we get a lot of rain, so the kids spend a lot of time inside during those months. We have been here for years, and most people in the village know us. The teachers come from nearby areas and they know the families well. It’s not a big corporate operation, just a local school trying to teach the basics. Sometimes the cows from the nearby fields wander too close to the gate. We have to keep an eye on the little ones so they don't wander off. The benches are old but they still work fine. We don't have a big office or anything, just a desk for the paperwork. It’s a lot of routine, really. Bells ring, kids eat their lunch, and then everyone goes home in the afternoon. That is how it goes here in Mekunnu day after day. Most of the parents work nearby and we see them at the end of every day.
