Pc Guruvilasam Basic Upper Primary School

This is Pc Guruvilasam, a basic upper primary school located in Ummenchira, which is part of the Thalassery area in Kannur. We have been around for a long time, and the school building feels like it belongs to another era with its old-style roof and thick walls. It is a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by a lot of greenery and houses. The kids here are mostly in the younger age groups, so there is always a lot of running around and noise during the breaks. We do not have a massive campus or anything like that. It is just a few blocks where the kids learn their basic subjects like Malayalam, English, and maths. The teachers here have lived in Kannur for most of their lives, so everyone kind of knows everyone else’s family. When it rains, which happens a lot here in Kerala, the sound on the roof is so loud you can barely hear the lessons. We just wait it out. The desks are old wooden ones that have seen many years of students. It is not a place for showing off; it is just where the local kids come to get their primary education finished. We have a small area where they eat their lunch, and then they head back to the rooms. It is a very steady, predictable way of life for us here in Ummenchira, and we like it that way.
