If you take the Kundrathur Road and head toward Chikkarayapuram, you will run into Sri Muthukumaran Institute Of Technology. It is a bit of a drive for some people, but it’s a familiar route for those of us who work here every day. The road can get quite crowded with lorries and bikes, so reaching the campus gate feels like a bit of a relief. Once you are inside, it’s a lot more settled. We have several blocks for the different engineering branches. The buildings are practical and sturdy, designed to handle a lot of students coming through every year. We don't spend much time worrying about how things look on a brochure; we just make sure the desks are sturdy and the labs have power. The wind blows across the open spaces between the buildings, which helps a bit with the humidity. In the afternoons, the place gets a bit quieter when everyone is tucked away in their labs or the library. We have a lot of routine here, from the morning bell to the time the last bus leaves in the evening. It’s just a place of work and study. There isn't anything fancy about the way we do things. We just keep the place running so the students can get their degrees and move on to whatever they have planned next. It’s a long day for everyone, but we’re used to the rhythm of it by now.
