Rajiv Gandhi College Of Engineering is out here in Sriperumbudur. If you know Kanchipuram, you know it’s a busy industrial spot. We’ve been running things from this campus for quite a few years now. Most mornings start early because the buses have to bring in students from all over the district. It’s not a fancy place with glass buildings, but it works for what we do. The classrooms are just standard rooms where people sit and listen to lectures. In the afternoons, the labs get pretty warm, especially during the summer months. We have the usual workshops where students tinker with machines and try to figure out how things work. There’s a canteen where everyone goes for tea and snacks between the periods. Sometimes the power goes out, but we just deal with it. It feels like a small community here because the same people have been working in the office for a long time. People know each other by name. We don’t have any big corporate philosophy or anything like that. It’s just a place where people come to study engineering and hopefully get their degrees without too much trouble. Kanchipuram is famous for temples, but out here in Sriperumbudur, it’s mostly just factories and colleges like ours. We just keep the gates open and try to stay organized day by day. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the schedules and making sure the practical exams go off okay.
