Being located in Ekambaram Naicker Industrial Estate means we are surrounded by a lot of other workshops and small factories. Our place at No.1/1 is usually a hive of activity from the moment we open the shutters. We handle a lot of technical work here, mostly focusing on things that keep other industries running. It’s not the cleanest job in the world. You’ll see wires and components spread out over the workbenches and the sound of soldering or testing equipment is pretty constant. The industrial estate itself is quite crowded, so parking can be a bit of a headache if you arrive late in the morning. We’ve grown used to the dust and the constant movement of trucks passing by outside our door. Inside, we try to keep things organized, but when you are busy, parts tend to pile up. The team here isn’t into wearing suits; it’s mostly just comfortable clothes that can get a bit dirty. We spend our days troubleshooting and making sure the technology we work with actually does what it is supposed to do. It’s a practical environment. We have tea from the stall around the corner twice a day, and that’s when we usually catch up on what needs to be finished before the sun goes down. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living, dealing with the nuts and bolts of tech every single day in this busy industrial corner.
