Narangi is a bit of a distance from the city center, and that gives Lakshya Public School a different kind of feel. It’s a bit more open out here. The air feels a little different than it does in the middle of Paltan Bazar. Our school sits on a plot of land that has a bit of grass, though it turns to mud pretty quickly when the monsoon hits. The building is a simple concrete one, painted a light color that has faded over the years. Inside, the hallways are narrow and the walls are covered with charts and drawings the kids made. We don't have a lot of high-tech equipment. We mostly rely on blackboards and chalk. There is something nice about the sound of a teacher writing on a board. The staff stays back late most days, sitting around a big table and talking while they finish their work. We drink a lot of tea. Sometimes the neighborhood dogs wander near the gate looking for scraps from the lunch boxes. It’s a very grounded place. We don't make big promises or use fancy words to describe what we do. We just open the doors every morning and get to work. The parents in Narangi are hard-working people, and we try to match that energy. It’s a basic setup, but it works for the families who live around here. We are just a local school doing the daily grind.
