Out here in Kadopadakantabanji, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Turekela Farmer Producer Company Limited is based right at Smt Snigdha Meher’s place. It’s where a group of us farmers decided to put our names together. We spend most of our mornings talking about the crops and what the weather is doing to the fields. It isn't a fancy corporate office with glass walls or anything like that. It’s just a room where we keep the records and meet up when there is something to decide. Snigdha helps keep things organized which is lucky for the rest of us. We deal with the stuff we grow ourselves and try to figure out the best way to get it sold. Some days we just sit around and drink tea while we wait for the rain or for a truck to arrive. It is hard work being a farmer and even harder trying to run a company together. We make mistakes sometimes with the paperwork because none of us were trained for this. But we learn as we go. People around Kantabanji know us and they know where the office is if they have questions. It’s a local thing for local people. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make sure our families get by through this producer company.
