Our company, Karlamunda Krushak Sathi Producer Company Limited, is located at S.Malpada. That’s in the Karlamunda block of Kalahandi. We use the mailing address care of Balmiki Chhatria. It’s a very local operation. We are right in the heart of the farming community here in Orissa. The pin code is 766031. We focus on being a companion to the farmers, which is what Krushak Sathi means to us. Most of us are from these same villages. We know the struggles of getting water to the fields and finding good prices for the grain. We meet up at the post office or in the village square to talk. It's not a corporate boardroom. It's usually just a couple of plastic chairs under a tree or in a small room. We deal with whatever comes up that day. Sometimes it's about seeds, sometimes it's about the tractors. We don't use big words or fancy strategies. We just try to help each other out. Kalahandi has a reputation, but we see the hard work people put in every day. The soil is tough but so are the people. We’ve been working together for a while now. Everyone knows everyone else in S.Malpada. We don't need a big marketing campaign. Our work speaks for itself when the harvest comes in. It's just us, the farmers, trying to make a living in Karlamunda. We stick together through the good and bad seasons while the work continues.
