Bansadhara Organic Producer Company Limited

We are based in Bandhapari, which is a bit out of the way in Kalahandi. The Bansadhara Organic Producer Company is made up of people from the local villages here. We are right near the river, which is why we picked the name. Life in Kalahandi revolves around the seasons and the rain. We don't have a big fancy building. Our office is just a simple place in the village where we gather to talk about the harvests. Most of us have been farming since we were kids. We switched to organic methods because we saw the land getting tired. It’s a lot of work making our own compost and keeping the bugs away without chemicals. Sometimes it feels like we are working twice as hard for the same amount of grain, but the quality is much better. We help each other out with the heavy work during the planting season. It’s a real community feeling. The roads to Bandhapari can be tough, especially when it rains, so we don't get many visitors from outside. We are just trying to build something that lasts for our children. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in Orissa. We just want to make sure our farmers get a fair deal and that the earth stays healthy. It’s a practical way of living and we are proud of what we do here in the village.
